consumption
now and again i'll throw some things on here that are consuming some of my attention. it may prove of interest, it may not, but as with all things on the internet you have the choice to read or not and the choice to follow up on these things or not. we are all in control of what we consume
fair warning that this page may become out of date very quickly... we'll see how long i maintain it... hence why i don't bother including a link to it on the homepage, just leaving it at a mention in the menu
listening:
leyla mccalla (breaking the thermometer) - a cellist with a style inhabiting a space blurring classical and haitian folk to come up with something that feels familiar and otherworldly at the same time. i love cello in general and the warmth of her playing as well as the timbre of her voice really have me ensconced in a familiar/unfamiliar place at the moment that i'm really digging. a great surprise findÂ
tar (music from and inspired by) - i love diving into a score or soundtrack after loving a film. the music is as stark and confronting and thought-provoking as the film was
banshees of innisherin - see above comments. carter burwell and martin mcdonagh seem so well matched, just as carter does with jonze/kaufman films
fire pink trio - poetry in motion: music for flute, viola, and harp... it all started with looking for a recording of debussy's suite for flute, viola and harp and when i came across this album the recording of locklair's dream steps alone has me playing the album over and over again. its been a go-to for a little while now
the strokes - been on a strokes kick again on and off since seeing them last year. never disappointÂ
reading:
tolkien's fall of numenor is getting a go at the moment. i love me some tolkien and while i have theoretically read the material before across the unfinished tales and History of Middle Earth books, its great reading it all again in this format in the order of the tale of years and with the benefit of some brand spanking new illustrations. gorgeous stuff
trying to catch up on griffith review's counterfeit culture while creation stories sits patiently in the shelf
watching:
the listening bit kind of answers that... but also taking a trip down memory lane with a rewatching of Northen Exposure
while in a mcdonagh mood i finally watched seven psychopaths too
